Lubricant for canister filter o-rings.

Hi all
One of my canister filter tops is really hard to get on and off. the o-ring that seals it is really dry. What lubricant can I use on it that wont harm the fish?

Yeap I use vaseline just to get things into tight spaces and agree its very useful. All my externals have experienced at bit of lubing up at some point.

I asked about vaseline ages ago, and i think its fine to use short term but can start to rot the rubber which was why i got some of that fluval lube stuff for my cannister filter.

ive bought a few add ons for external eheims like the inlet and outlet kits in the past, these come with lube for the o-rings as you can custom the length of the pipework to fit your tank

I've used a small amount of vegetable oil on my fluval for the last 12months without any bad experiences, this was a tip given by my LFS.

fluval lube is good or some fish shops will sell the silicone lube which is the same.

you should be able to pick up some on ebay or a lfs.

Silicone grease from any plumbers supply. It's meant for the job of lubing O seals.

Yep thats the best stuff, petroleum based Vaseline is actually detrimental to rubber o-rings

I did buy some from my local chemist aswell but I cant remember the name of it
