Appearance: L-411 was previously commonly seen on the markets listed as L-260. However, by virtue of its larger size and distinct patterning, it was quickly asserted to be a different fish, known later as an animal hailing from the monte dourado region of the Rio Jari. A fairly hefty fish, reaching ~5â€, it is distinguished from other similar sized animals, save perhaps L-66, by its complex networked patterning. It is also bulkier, then most comparable hypancistrus, with a thick profile throughout. Its regularly faded coloration is also quite distinct. Still, it is regularly portrayed as L-260, due to very similar striping on the major fins. However, the vermiculations are finer and more concentrated in L-411, and as aforementioned, it does not maintain as consistent of a dark base color as L-260. Very young, less striped individuals still bear a shocking resemblance to L-260, so do bear that in mind-hoever, the faded appearance begins to show at around 3 weeks or so, so there really shouldn't be any confusion.**

L-411: note the bulky body features and faded coloration.

More info: Identification of Hypancistrus

Compatibility: Fairly peaceful plecs, can be kept with corys or other mid water fish. Ideally when breeding keep them in a species only tank.

Sexing and Breeding: Mature males develop cheek and pectoral odontodes to a greater extent than females. Course body hair is also visible on well conditioned mature males.Males become almost jet Black when breeding. Breeding is similar to other species of hypancistrus, male will trap female for around 2-3 days whilst vibrating to encourage her to spawn. Once the eggs are laid the male will guard the eggs in his cave usually keeping the clutch in his mouth breathing over them. Eggs usually hatch in 5-7 days, egg sacks are used up within 5-10 days.

Diet: Earthworm pellets, Sinking carnivore wafers, Bloodworm pellets, algae wafers, tetra prima, Frozen bloodworm, Tetra doromin. Anything meaty will usually be eaten with no problems.

Water parameters: Temp 27-30C.
Nitrates as low as possible. Tds as low as possible. PH 6.5-7.5

Max Size: 4.5" TL

Bred by: st24rsap, windy
