Appearance: Easily identified by the distinctive pattern white to light grey small squiggles over a dark blue to almost black background.
Physical body shape is the same as the other L163 species.
Body is when viewed from above typical Hypancistrus species shape. A broad head with a short tapered body
The caudal fin is slightly forked and the eyes are quite large easily displaying the Omega iris
Compatibility: As with all fish from this genus territorial disputes cane become deadly avoid keeping with fish that will compete for territory.
Sexing and Breeding: Male develop the characteristic odontodes. The males as with all Hypancistrus have a more pointed head when viewed from above.
This fish has been breed in captivity and follows the normal Hypancistrus behaviour slate or clay caves are cleaned by the male then a female is trapped and 30 eggs are laid in a cave being guarded by the males until the yolk sac is absorbed.
Diet: A predominantly meat eater that will take vegetable matter but prefers meaty food like mysus shrimp and blood worm
Water parameters: PH 6.0 - 7.6 Temp 23.0-28.0°C
Tank should have Sand, driftwood & some shelter in the form of caves
