Appearance:

Compatibility:
One of the most peaceful plecos, the para can be a little shy but seems to get on quite well with conspecifics, other plecos and fish.

Sexing and Breeding:

Diet:
An omnivore, so fresh vegetables such as courgette, deshelled peas, green beans should be fed. Algae wafers should be accepted and some meaty foods like brine shrimp, mosquito larvae, bloodworms.

Water parameters:
Temp 25-30c PH 5.5-7.5As the Para can be a little shy, plenty of hiding places should be provided. As with most other plecos, medium to low lighting would be preferred and plants aren't needed.

Max Size:
25cm.

Bred by:

Additional Comments:

There is much confusion as to which family the para now belongs to, originally it was placed in the peckoltia snethlageae family but later described as a hemiancistrus and more recently an ancistomus, a new family of plecs that was introduced in 2001.
