Similar to ancistrus but with a much flatter body. They have 3 curved short odontodes which are normally hidden under the gill cover and are extended when used in defence.
Fairly peaceful pleco. As with all plecs, enough space and hidng places should be provided to avoid confrontation and stress.
Sexing and Breeding:
Males have a broader head and as they age possibly more bristles on the snout area.
Not reported to have been bred in the aquariumalthough soft acidic water is a good place to start
These plecs are herbivores so a diet of veggies is needed and occasionally some meaty foods such as daphnia and brine shrimp
PH 5-7 TEMP 26-30
Good filtration is required along with frequent water changes.
