hi, just moving some fish to new tank so took opportunity to photo my medusas. they are very secretive and dont get to see much of them in the tank.
they are very slow growing and I have had these as a pair for nearly a couple of years.
Does anyone else keep them and found them slow growing??

anyway they might be a pair or just a male and subordinate male.
this one has most bristles..

and this might be female but dont know how bristly they do or dont get!
anyone have some for comparison?
she is also quite hairy., with same body shape as male.
they get well fed but maybe dont eat much?

very nice plecs but in my opinion they both look like males. i used to sell them in the shop and the females were smooth and very small bristles round mouth. dont take my word for it tho, been wrong before, lol.

Because this Sp is wild caught the males will be caught in larger amounts.
I myself have never seen comfirmed females in the flesh.

Yes females are probably more hairy that the common male bristlenose, excluding the bristles down the center. The biggest I've came across were about 5".

Neil seemed fairly convinced with them being a pair when i picked them up, and the fact that "she" has no brached bristles or any along the nose, i'd still think he was right

They are known to be tricky to breed but as Bri said there is no branching of the bristles so i would say you have a pair too

I recently picked up a male medusa, the female got sold before I could get back for her:wb: but she did have bristles ,just not as many. Good luck and keep us updated if anything happens. thanks,
