Why is it that you don't have many pleco's in SA? Are they difficult to import?

Pity, it must be hard to not be able to keep the fish that you want. Welcome to the forum anyway...

we have most of the common species but with our legislation and our economy at the moment its not helping with any of the rare varieties. in South Africa i would say the hobby is still in its beginning stages with huge possibilities for growth. the marine side is much bigger though.

wouldn't say difficult to import for pet shops they just over price there livestock and in turn don't order anymore because people cant afford those prices. i mean 4,500 south african rand for a 4cm L46 way over priced.....

Expensive!

Wow sounds expensive, I just tried to convert your South African Rand to Australian Dollars. Not sure if conversion correct but seems that 4,500 for you is approximately $490 Australian dollars. Here juvenilles are selling for $600 - $700 AUD which I have also found is very expensive. Sounds like yours are actually cheaper
