Hey.
I am new to the forum.
I have a doubt.
The Hypancistrus contradens is the L 201 or is a different one.
Thank you.

I have both and until I wouldnt have been able to tell you the dif before now. My pic of the contradons is a little old and they are much larger now.

contradons are 4-5" blacker base with big yellow spots

201s are 2 1/2-3 1/2" with a dark brown almost black base with smaller spots

Great post...

I am in Australian and have recently purchased 201s from a few sources and they all have the larger spots...

Does this mean the L201s in Australia are not true L201 and are the contradens? My male looks identical to augusto's image

bro MIT one is L201.
H. contradens has uniformly sized big spots at the caudal and body.
L201 has smaller spots at the caudal.
their caudal shape is also different.
L201 has L129 caudal shape whereby H. contradens has L333 caudal shape.
another point is L201 max up to around 3 inch but H. contradens can be 4-5 inches max.
Moreover, L201 body is flatter whereas H. contradens has bulkier body like L333.
