Panaque with excess fin

I've had my Panaque cf. armbrusteri 'Tocantins' for 4/5 years, and every once in a while it seems to go through a phase of growing extra fin on it's dorsal and caudal. It seems that a few of the soft fin rays grow, as does the membrane connecting them.

I've seen this a couple of times before on Panaque, (I think) both were also Tocantins. Has anyone else seen this occur?

yes an L200 has sprouted on its tail fin but from one point only

That's really weird. How long does it stay like that for when it has done it before?

Any ideas of why it happens?

that is weird, never seen anything like that on any of my plecs, i guess this is where long fin varieties are cultivated from
