Filter media question

About a year and a half ago I must have nicked the ring around the head of my Eheim 2026 filter because it started leaking. Not long after we had to get new carpet and I just didn't want to take a chance of it leaking again so I put it away in storage.

Well I finally got around to replacing the ring other day and now it works fine. I cleaned it as well as I could before putting it away, but I'm just wondering if I should replace all the media before starting it up in my tank. Don't want to take a chance of some virus/bacteria being released into one of my tanks. Or can I get away with running hot water over the media for a while and soaking it all in some AmQuel/NovAqua dosed water?

Thanks

If you have sponges, for the final rinse i would add some dechlor but as irene says a good wash/boil should be ok.
