Tank setup for breeding

Hello all. Currently I have 8 of each (L066, L134 and L270s) in a 4 foot 350L tank growing out since January. Then in a 220L tank i have 5x L144 and 9x Peppermint bristle nose breeding occasionally and another 8x (L397, L333) growing out as well.
I plan to build a rack setup to breed them in. Im about to buy 2x 5foot tanks and have a sump to filter both tanks. The question I have will the 8x L066, L134 and L270s breed if placed in the one tank. Or will I have more success if i stick dividers in the tank. (These lot would go into one 5 foot) then the second 5 foot tank have the L333, L397, and the peppermints. Again would I have more success if i use dividers?

You will get hybred plecs by sticking the L66 and L270's together.... as with the L144 and peppermint BN's. Most of us strive to avoid this at all cost! But to answer your question you can stick some plecs together and still breed them without problems..... but it almost always easier to breed one kind to a tank.

thanks for the tips chuck, i didnt know they could cross breed.
So im guessing dividers in the 5 foot tank will be the way to go to separate them.

You can put for example a group of Hypancistrus and Ancistrus in the same tank and have both spawn without a problem. I have a tank with L180, L129, and Peckoltia Zwerg all in the same tank and all 3 breed... plus they will not cross breed. But you asked for the best way to get them to spawn and that would be to have one kind of plec per tank.... or divided area if you can't provide a different tank.

Hope that helps,
Chuck
