Very interesting. You will find that in cichlids the same is happening in reverse, many cichlids in captivity are getting larger than there wild caught relatives.
This is due to the fact we feed a constant balanced diet where in the wild there is no such constant regime some could possibly go without food for days if terretories are dense.
If what is stated in the above thread is true, breeding the largest would have the advese effect, causing our typical tank bred cichlid to grow from 12 as a standard to 13-14 and so on. Working at a store i have seen some extremely large sizes produced not typical of there species.

One reason why fish in tanks grow fast is that we have for most fish removed law no 1 reproduction, so law no 2 is the dom law & that is eating.
