:hi:
are these really as good as they say?
interested to know if anybody uses them on any of their tanks?
how hard are they to maintain, how often should the media be changed?
i like the idea of extra filtration without extra power consumption as they generally run off the return from an external canister filter.
Thanx 4 looking

I remember when these first came out over 10 years ago. They were all the rage. Seeing as they are still in production there must be something to them. I've never used one though I have looked at them before for the reasons you've stated - no power consumption for additional filtration &, additionally, little to no maintenance. I don't think media ever needs to be replaced and if run utilizing pre-filtered water, I don't believe there will be any problems with particultates. One issue that many people had was that flow rates too high will cause sand to escape & enter the tank. The current units have flow controls built in but the earlier version didn't I think. I still may try one of these one day, if you do, let us know how it goes.
